On September 30, 2026, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment issued Official Letter No. 11232/BNNMT-BĐKH, announcing Vietnam’s national grid emission factor for 2024 at 0.6187 tCO₂/MWh. This is an important parameter for greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory and emission reduction activities in Vietnam.
Vietnam’s grid emission factor for 2024
According to the official letter, the 2024 grid emission factor was calculated in 2025 under the leadership of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in coordination with relevant agencies.
The result indicates that, based on the published grid emission factor, each MWh of electricity corresponds to an average of 0.6187 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
What should businesses keep in mind?
The grid emission factor is an important parameter for calculating indirect greenhouse gas emissions from purchased and consumed electricity (Scope 2).
Updating and applying the appropriate emission factor for each GHG inventory reporting period helps businesses improve calculation accuracy, maintain data consistency, and support the development of effective emission reduction measures.
Businesses should therefore review the emission factors currently used in their GHG inventories, particularly for electricity consumption data from 2024.
EcoTrack has updated the new grid emission factor
To help businesses conduct GHG inventories more conveniently and accurately, ESGreen has updated Vietnam’s 2024 grid emission factor (0.6187 tCO₂/MWh) in its EcoTrack software system.
With the newly integrated emission factor, EcoTrack enables businesses to select the appropriate parameter for their inventory reporting period, minimize calculation errors, and improve the efficiency of GHG emissions data management.
Businesses can now access EcoTrack and use the updated emission factor in their GHG inventory calculations.
